The Eidonias elves understand that they come from another world, far removed from Enolia. Their reasons for journeying so far are steeped in mystery and are now forgotten lore.
One belief is that Castiann led them from a dying land, by following his guiding star, Thyshen (which means light or the light of a sunrise). Their journey was across a vast desert to a towering citadel known as the Catrezac esh Livv (Citadel of Life). Within the citadel, at its heart, was an enormous magical gate that transported his people to Enolia, where they settled in the area of the Ardalian fertile basin. This took place before the Age of Earth (over three millennia ago) and most records and prophetic writings were lost in the 'cleansings' after the Shadow Wars.
Another belief is that they had a call to duty, to wage war against an ancient evil. Lording Sages opened a portal to Enolia and the generals led a savage campaign against their mighty foe.
The gods inhabit a netherworld, the Hervantrii, filled with celestial servants. Each is believed to live in their separate domains; Castiann and Eventii in a magnificent citadel, Torvvall in a fortress surrounded by rugged mountains, Blavvac deep in the darkness of the underworld. Other than Tootch the Traveler, they rarely leave the Hervantrii.
There are two major religious factions, between the upper and lower class. The upper class is primarily in the cities and leaders of the kounties in the Empire, having their own temples of worship. The upper class only follows the main pantheon while the lower class has other additional minor gods, some assimilated from the surrounding human populations. In recent years this schism has now led to the rise of civil war in the empire.
The elven people have a strong sense of fate and prophecy. Bai'shen, the god of foresight, is believed to have a mystic presence in all happenings. His followers carry his words in their hearts as he whispers, as the wind into their ears, to spread to the people his prophecies. An age old story tells of eight sisters, children to the god Bai'shen and an elven mistress. These sisters were believed to travel the lands bringing about prophecy and act as instruments to deliver a type of karmic justice.
Symbolism and signs are a major part of elven heritage and their daily lives. Omens of good and evil are watched for by all. Merchants will turn back home when traveling to the market if a coin is found in a puddle. A military commander will call off an attack if they suffer a cut in the morning of the strike. If a stack of wood burns blue, evil is present, while a bright orange means a blessing of Shetheckel.
The past century has now become a crisis in faith for the Eidonias. The powers of their priests are waning and the most mundane communal acts are at a taxing price for the priest physically.
Deities
The Kingdom of Castiel has two main religions. There is the supplanted Ardalian pantheon and the indigenous Tressekian faith. The kingdom recognizes the Ardalian gods as their state deities ever since the empire's occupation.
